Lumo at the Edinburgh Science Festival

Lumo illuminates science through sponsorship

Published 01 Apr 2023

Lumo sponsored an installation piece, Trees of Life, at the Edinburgh Science Festival this April.

The interactive installation, created by Edinburgh-based We Throw Stitches and Berlin-based artist Robin Baumgarten, explores Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. The piece generates tree-like forms that challenge us to understand that our part in the natural world is subject to the same controlling forces that govern all life.

Edinburgh Science Festival has been developed with support from Creative Scotland and featured activities such as exhibitions, art installations, and walking tours – all aimed at embracing the concepts of experimentation, innovation, creativity, curiosity, and invention.

Trees of Life was hosted at the National Museum of Scotland from the 1st to the 16th of April.

Managing director, Martijn Gilbert, said: Lumo have partnered with the Edinburgh Science Festival as our values align in creating a more sustainable future with innovation at the heart. Lumo is particularly proud to be sponsoring the Trees of Life exhibit, as we look to reduce the impact of carbon on the planet. Lumo continues to  champion this value as a return trip from Edinburgh to London by a Lumo train, rather than flying, saves the equivalent in carbon emissions to 10 trees.”
